A salute to the punk and hardcore bands that influenced them, Slayer’s seventh studio album featured covers of Verbal Abuse, T.S.O.L., Minor Threat, Dr. Know, and more. Tom Araya explained, “That really is how we see Slayer – a hardcore punk band. It’s hardcore ’cause it’s aggressive, heavy, and grinding, but it’s punk because we’ve got our tongues in our cheeks, and we don’t really care if people think we’re assholes. I think that’s really missing in punk these days.”
