1-5. Jeff Hanneman's first guitar, a custom 1978 Les Paul, used on Show No Mercy and Hell Awaits. Jeff customized the guitar by adding a Seymour Duncan pickup in the bridge position and a Kahler tremolo (added by guitarist Chris Poland). Hanneman described the guitar's look: "To do the paint job, I taped up the pickups, dipped a stick in some red paint, and just splashed it on there. I think I screwed some chains on her for a while, too."
Jeff's wife Kathryn scratched "Kathy" and "I love you" on the back of the guitar as a message to Jeff. From the Collection of Kathryn and Jeff Hanneman
