Shortly after releasing Show No Mercy, Slayer broke out of Los Angeles and ventured north to San Francisco and beyond. Their debut at Ruthie's Inn left the Berkeley crowd hungry for more. When they returned a few months later, Metal Mania editor Ron Quintana wrote, "SLAYERRRRRRR returns to Ruthie's tonight MINUS THE EYELINER of their first visit!!!"
